FAQ

How do I schedule an appointment with Evans Mental Health Associates?

Please look under the Contact Us tab and call our office at 706-825-4461 to talk to someone about scheduling an initial evaluation. We will collect some information from you in order to schedule an appointment for your child or adolescent at that time. Once you are an established patient, you can schedule an appointment via phone OR via our AdvancedMD Patient Portal (link on the Contact Us page).

What do I do if I’m having an emergency?

Definitely reach out to us by either calling 706-825-4461 and leaving a message or by sending a message through the AdvancedMD Patient Portal. All messages are checked continuously through the day during office hours, but on weekends and holidays less frequently. The bottom line is that if the emergency involves a serious reaction to a medication or feeling suicidal, the first thing to do is to go directly to the nearest Emergency Room or psychiatric hospital.

What psychiatric hospital should I go to?

There are a couple choices around the CSRA including Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta and Aurora Pavilion in South Carolina. Always call ahead when going to a psychiatric hospital to make sure they have a bed and accept your insurance. It is a big decision to go inpatient and calling ahead makes things go a lot smoother.

When should I schedule a follow up appointment?

That depends on how your child or adolescent is doing and what medication changes are being made. There is no set schedule as to when one has to follow up and it is entirely dependent on how you are doing. That being said, if recent medication changes have been made or if your child or adolescent is struggling, we often recommend more frequent follow-up until your child or adolescent is more stable.

What is the best way to get in touch with my doctor?

The AdvancedMD Patient Portal is definitely the best way to get a message to your doctor quickly during office hours. It also can save a lot of time dealing with “phone tag”, however, you can also call our office at 706-825-4461 during business hours and leave a message with our front desk.

Can I text my doctor if I’m having an emergency?

There is no direct to text your doctor, however, if you are having an emergency, you can call our office at 706-825-4461 OR send your doctor a message through the AdvancedMD Patient Portal. As with all of our modes of communication (phone, patient portal) they are not checked as frequently after office hours. Always reach out to us when you are having an emergency but proceed to the nearest emergency room if the emergency involves a serious reaction to a medication or thoughts of harming oneself or others.
